August 29, HW2 , Reading Reflection
In the first part of chapter 2 from A Concise Guide and from the website The Writing Guide: Adapting to your Audience, it really focused on the different types of audiences, how you should analyze your audience before you start writing, and the importance of producing information that is useful to that specific group of people or community.
Understanding who your audience is and what their needs are is important to be an effective technical communicator. For this weeks assignment we are to reply to a classmate's posting giving suggestions on how to help make this semester survivable. I need to consider my audience when replying to classmates.
Throughout this class in our major writing projects it will be important to consider who are audience is. For example, our writing project #1 is putting together a job application packet. Depending on the job that I will be applying for I will need to consider what kind of information I would like the employer to know about me through my resume and cover page. Am I communicating to the employer the skills I have and are those skills fulfilling their needs? Is my language appropriate?
In present and future writing projects either in school or at work considering your audience is also important. Currently at work I communicate through email to an array of different audiences. I also need to understand purpose behind the email. Like described in the web page: Writing Guide; Understanding Your Purpose. By communicating through email is the purpose of our communication to inform, explain, persuade, etc.
On page 21 in the A Concise Guide it also shows how one topic can be communicate to two different audiences by performing a Basic Audience Analysis. You can do this by changing your language and the topics of interest to keep the interest of your audience.
